Gwalia United is the most successful club in the history of Welsh women’s football.

Founded in Cardiff in 1975, the club has spent five decades setting standards: winning major honours, competing in the English FA pyramid, representing Wales in the UEFA Women’s Cup and developing players who became defining figures in the international game.

Its alumni are a who’s who of Welsh football. Sophie Ingle. Jess Fishlock. Gwennan Harries. Players who have performed at the highest level, and whose journeys were shaped by a club that has consistently created a pathway for Welsh talent.

The club’s history has included Llanedeyrn L.F.C., Cardiff L.F.C., Cardiff County and Cardiff City Ladies. Every chapter added to a record few clubs can match. Gwalia United is one of Welsh football’s foundational institutions, with the trophies, players and legacy to prove it.

In 2024/25, the club began its next chapter under new owners Damien Singh and Julian Jenkins, becoming Gwalia United. The name comes from an ancient word for Wales and reflects a clear ambition: to build a modern, nationally recognised Welsh club competing in the English system.

Gwalia United represents Wales beyond its borders — with a heritage no other Welsh women’s club can claim, and an ambition to match the scale of that history.
