Sarah Stacey gave Exeter the lead, tapping home from a matter of yards to put the Grecians ahead, sending the strong attendance at St James’ Park into celebration. Exeter were in search of more goals with Emily Toogood threading a ball to Stacey that went away from any danger.
Georgia Walters found space on the halfway line, with Tia Asker making a darting run in behind, intuitively looping the ball over Abbi Bond in the Exeter goal to give Gwalia a good response going into the second 45. And from this point, Gwalia were able to match Exeter with their intensity.
