All eyes on the FA Cup as Gwalia United travel to Women’s Championship opposition

Gwalia United will travel to Hayes Lane on Sunday to face London City Lionesses, who will be their tier two opponents in the second round of the FA Cup. London City Lionesses sit fourth in the Women’s Championship just three points from top spot, which secures promotion to the WSL. They have scored 16 goals in their opening 9 league games.

They have however struggled for form recently, losing their last three games in all competitions; their last win at home was back in the middle of October. Eight of their first team squad featured internationally this week. It is unknown whether they will be available for Sunday’s game, but this illustrates the magnitude of the task awaiting Gwalia.

Gwalia United of course also had international representation as Laura O’Sullivan-Jones was in the Wales squad that made history by qualifying for the country’s first ever major tournament on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere Keira O’Keefe, Shurima Vine and Casi Gregson featured for the Wales under 19s during the international break. Elena Cole captained in Wales u19s 4 – 0 win over Georgia. Gwalia United beat Bridgwater 4 – 0 in the last round of the FA Cup and will be eager to carry on this cup run. They have scored eight goals in their two FA Cup games and will need to bring that form with them if they want to progress further on Sunday.

It is likely to be a fascinating clash Fern Burrage-Male’s side are looking to pull off a major upset against Jocelyn Precheur’s high caliber squad.
