Two beautifully crafted goals inside the opening 10 minutes put the visitors in command. After five minutes, Elin Thomas split the Bristol defence with an excellent through ball for Esme Kilburn-Thompson, who kept her composure to steer a fine finish beyond the goalkeeper. Gwalia struck again five minutes later. Kylie Nolan picked out Daisy Ackerman with another clever pass, and Ackerman produced a delightful chip from outside the penalty area to double the lead.

Bristol needed a response and found one after 20 minutes. Ellie Preece hit a superb strike from distance, sending the ball beyond Gwalia goalkeeper Ameliah Yarwood and giving the home side renewed hope.

The goal sparked a more open spell, with both teams finding space and pushing forward. Gwalia remained dangerous: Kilburn-Thompson tested Bristol goalkeeper Hunt, while Ackerman sent an effort narrowly wide just before the break. The sides went in at half-time with Gwalia’s early two-goal advantage reduced to a single goal.

Bristol came out looking for an equaliser, but Gwalia continued to threaten at the other end. Jess Cockayne tried her luck from distance in the 54th minute, only for her shot to sail past the left-hand post. Summer Evans also got an effort on target, which Hunt gathered.

Manon Pearce then drove forward down the left flank and won a corner for Gwalia, offering the visitors a chance to reassert themselves. Their attacking intent remained clear as the half wore on. In the 70th minute, Imi Scourfield sent a fine cross into the box, but Hunt was well positioned to claim it.

Pearce took another corner for Gwalia in the 80th minute as Bristol tried to find a late opening. The hosts had brought themselves back into contention with Preece’s emphatic finish, but Gwalia held firm through the closing stages to protect their narrow lead.
