Gwalia United FC and Coleg y Cymoedd are proud to announce the launch of a new Women’s Football Pathway Partnership, creating an exciting opportunity for ambitious young players to combine education with high-level football development.
The partnership is designed to support players aged 16 and over as they continue their studies while developing within a structured, performance-focused football environment. It establishes a clear pathway for talented young women across South Wales, connecting Coleg y Cymoedd’s educational provision with the potential for inclusion into Gwalia United’s wider player-development programme.

Players enrolled on the programme will benefit from Coleg y Cymoedd football programme’s provision of regular training sessions, competitive fixtures, qualified coaching, strength and conditioning support, individual development planning, and education around professionalism and high-performance habits. They will also have opportunities to engage with Gwalia United’s player-development model and, if appropriate, progress into the club’s Under-17 programme and even senior training environments.
The initiative is built on the shared belief that young athletes should not have to choose between pursuing their academic ambitions and developing their football careers.
Cori Williams Mills of Gwalia United said: “This partnership is an important step in creating a genuine pathway for female players in South Wales. We want talented young footballers to see that they can continue their education while also being supported, challenged and developed within a high-performance football environment.
“We have at Gwalia both an Under-16 and Under-17 squad, and this can be seen as junior pathways aligning with the beginning of a senior football journey. By working with Coleg y Cymoedd, we can give players a clearer route forward and help them prepare for the demands of the modern women’s game, both on and off the pitch.”
Coleg y Cymoedd offers a wide range of academic and vocational qualifications, supported by experienced staff and flexible learning environments that recognise the demands placed on student-athletes. The partnership will ensure players can continue to build the qualifications, skills and experiences needed to succeed in football and beyond it.
Claire O’Sullivan of Coleg y Cymoedd said: “We are delighted to be working with Gwalia United to offer a pathway that places equal value on education and sporting development. This partnership will give young women the opportunity to pursue their ambitions in football without compromising their future studies or career opportunities.
“We are committed to supporting every student-athlete as an individual. Through this partnership, players will have access to a positive, inclusive environment where they can develop confidence, resilience and the skills needed to succeed at the highest level possible.”
For athletes performing at the appropriate level, further opportunities may also be available through the college’s involvement with the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), providing additional support to help players balance their sporting and academic commitments.
