Gwalia United enjoyed a memorable day at the Royal Welsh Show, bringing football to the heart of one of Wales’ biggest events and connecting with hundreds of young players and families from across the country.
With two dedicated sessions in the Sports Arena, Gwalia players Imi Scourfield, Laura O’Sullivan-Jones, Emma Thomas and Ellie-Mai Sanford spent the day leading football activities, meeting supporters and sharing their passion for the game with boys and girls of all ages. Against the backdrop of a showground welcoming more than 40,000 visitors throughout the day, the club’s presence proved to be one of the highlights of an action-packed programme.
From early in the morning until late in the afternoon, the Gwalia area was alive with energy. Young footballers eagerly took part in skills challenges, games and informal kickabouts, while families embraced the opportunity to interact with players from one of Wales’ leading women’s football clubs. The smiles on the faces of children pulling on Gwalia shirts, collecting autographs and taking photographs with the squad captured the spirit of the occasion.
Perhaps the most rewarding sight of all was seeing Gwalia colours spread across the showground. Throughout the day, families could be spotted wearing the club’s kit as they explored the event, creating a real sense of pride and demonstrating the growing reach of women’s football in Wales. For the players themselves, the opportunity to inspire the next generation and witness first-hand the enthusiasm for the game made for an unforgettable experience.
The Royal Welsh Show once again provided an incredible platform to celebrate Welsh sport, with Gwalia United sharing the site alongside some of the nation’s most recognisable sporting organisations, including Cardiff Rugby, Wales Basketball, Hoci Cymru, Scarlets Rugby and Dragons RFC. The variety of activities on offer showcased the strength and diversity of sport in Wales and highlighted the important role that clubs play in encouraging participation and creating lifelong memories.
For Gwalia United, the day represented far more than two football sessions. It was a chance to engage with communities, champion the women’s game and strengthen the bond between the club and supporters from every corner of Wales.
