Club owners Julian Jenkins and Damien Singh visited USW Sport Park last week, meeting staff and taking a tour of the facilities as Gwalia United explore how the two organisations could work more closely together in the future. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the potential for collaboration across a number of areas, including player development, performance support, community engagement and opportunities for young people to progress in the game.
USW Sport Park has become an important hub for sporting activity and development in south Wales, and Gwalia United see a closer relationship as an exciting step in the club’s long-term ambitions. Gwalia United co-owner Julian Jenkins said:
“We were delighted to spend time with the team at USW Sport and to see the quality of the facilities first-hand. There is a real shared ambition around creating opportunities, developing people and helping women’s football continue to grow.
“Gwalia United is looking beyond the pitch at how we can create meaningful partnerships that bring value to the club, our players and our wider community. USW Sport has a strong reputation for supporting sport and education, and we are excited by the conversations that have started.”
Gwalia United co-owner Damien Singh, who had travelled from Australia to visit, added: “The growth of women’s football relies on clubs, education providers and community organisations working together. We want Gwalia United to be a positive force in that growth, and strategic partnerships will be central to achieving that.
“Our visit to USW Sport Park was hugely encouraging. We saw a welcoming, professional environment and a clear commitment to supporting athletes at every stage of their journey.”
The potential partnership aligns with Gwalia United’s ongoing focus on creating a sustainable pathway for female players. Alongside plans to develop new Under-16s and Under-17s teams, the club is working to ensure talented young players have more opportunities to train, compete and progress within an ambitious footballing environment. The new age-group teams would form an important part of Gwalia United’s development structure, helping bridge the gap between grassroots football and senior competition while giving young players a clear route to pursue their ambitions.
