Gwalia United vs Exeter City Preview

Gwalia United vs Exeter City
Sunday, 8th September – Kick-off: 2 PM
Newport Stadium

Old rivalries never die, and this clash against the Grecians will see two teams battle it out for the first time in over a year. Last season, Gwalia United edged out Exeter City to claim the title and earn promotion to Tier 3. Fast forward 12 months, and Exeter have earned their promotion, starting the season in strong form with impressive wins over MK Dons and Plymouth, along with a hard-fought draw against promotion favourites Ipswich Town.

The last time Exeter visited Newport, Gwalia United dominated with a 5-0 victory, featuring goals from Emily Richards, Ellie Sargent, Emily Poole, and a brace from Chloe Lloyd. This season, our form at home has been solid, with victories over AFC Wimbledon and Bristol Rovers in the Cup. Manager Fern expressed the team’s ambition to add another three points to the tally:

“It’s been an unusual start. We’ve played well in every game, but a lapse in concentration and missed chances have left the table looking different. We’ve addressed these areas, and the response from the squad has been outstanding. We’re going into this match with confidence, aiming to kickstart our league campaign.”

This fixture promises to be an exciting derby, with both teams eager to make their mark in this highly competitive division. We would love to see a big Gwalia United crowd at Newport Stadium to cheer on the team and drive us to another home victory.
