Match Preview – Maidenhead United v Gwalia United

Maidenhead United's York Road Stadium

Gwalia United head to Berkshire this Sunday looking to bounce back from a draw last weekend, when they take on Maidenhead United at York Road in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West.

Cori Williams-Mills’ side were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Keynsham Town last time out, and will be keen to tighten up after throwing away commanding leads in recent weeks to both Worcester City Women and Keynsham Town.

There is still plenty to play for. With a game in hand, Gwalia remain just two points away from second place in the table, and they will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.

Maidenhead, managed by former Premier League forward Dave Kitson, sit seventh and have won four of their last seven games. Last Sunday they drew 1-1 at home to Marine Academy Plymouth, thanks to a 94th-minute equaliser from Izzy Stockton, her fifth goal of the campaign.

Gwalia have a full-strength squad to choose from with one exception. Benedicte Håland is suspended after her dismissal against Keynsham last Sunday. Emma Thomas returns to the squad after Wales Under 19s duty. In-form striker Daisy Ackerman will look to continue her scoring streak, having netted seven goals in the last three fixtures.

Head-to-head

The last time the sides met in Berkshire was in November 2022, when Gwalia, then known as Cardiff City Ladies, won 3-0 in a Division One South West clash. Chloe Lloyd, Kerry Bartlett and Grace Horrell scored the goals for the visitors.

Match officials

Referee Matthew Dickinson of Lancashire FA will be assisted by Oliver Sunderland of Hampshire Football Association and Thomas Fondie of Somerset Football Association. Fondie was the match referee for Gwalia’s visit to Lewes during the 2025-2026 season.
