Gwalia U17s held by late Carmarthen equaliser
SWWGL Division 1 | Sunday 1 November
Gwalia Utd U17s 2–2 Carmarthen Town
Gwalia U17s were denied a hard-earned victory after Carmarthen Town scored in the closing minutes to claim a 2–2 draw on Sunday. The match was an entertaining, end-to-end contest, with both sides playing at a high tempo and working hard to gain control. Gwalia enjoyed long spells of possession and created opportunities, but it was Carmarthen who opened the scoring, striking against the run of play.
The goal did little to unsettle Gwalia. They continued to move the ball confidently and looked for a way back into the match. Their response was rewarded when Summer finished a well-worked team move to make it 1–1. The equaliser gave Gwalia added belief, and they continued to put Carmarthen under pressure. The hosts linked up well in attack and caused problems across the pitch. Another fine move ended with Mali finding the net to put Gwalia 2–1 ahead.
Gwalia worked tirelessly to protect their lead, showing organisation and determination against a strong Carmarthen side. As time ran down, they looked on course to take all three points. However, Carmarthen found an equaliser in the final minutes to make it 2–2.
The late goal was a disappointment for Gwalia, who had come close to securing an impressive win. But the performance offered plenty of encouragement. The U17s matched their opponents throughout, created chances and showed the quality and confidence they have been building as a team.
While the result was a draw, Gwalia can take real pride in the way they competed and responded after going behind. Their attacking play, work rate and togetherness were all on show in a closely fought match against strong opposition.
