Gwalia United return to the USW Sport Park on Sunday, looking to book a place in the next round of the FAWNL Plate, as we host London Bees. Kick-off is at 2pm.
During our travels in the league last weekend, we were defeated 5-1 to Plymouth Argyle at Home Park. Tamara Wilcock scored the opener for the Pilgrims in the first half, before Tiana Teisar and Ellie Noble made it 3-0 early in the second.
Gwalia, however, got one back as Casi Gregson’s composed finish made it 3-1. In the final 10 minutes of the match, Charlotte Whitmore got on the scoresheet, bagging a brace to round off the scoring for the hosts.
Only five league places separate visitors London Bees and Gwalia in the league pyramid, sitting in third place of the Division One South East table, only six points off leaders Fulham.
In their latest league assignment, the Bees beat Luton Town away from home, with Millie Isherwood’s free-kick enough to earn three points away from home. This will be Gwalia’s first home match since the 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur’s PGA side, with Gregson, Georgia Walters, and a Cori Williams-Mills’ brace setting up this tie.
London Bees were also involved in a seven-goal thriller in the last round, winning 4-3 against Cambridge United. Isherwood’s brace, and goals from Brionne Fowle and Cheyenne Flynn gave Dan McKimm’s team a 4-0 lead in the early stages of the second half.
Three unanswered goals from the U’s were not enough as the Bees held on for victory.
Remembrance Sunday’s match will be marked with a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off.
