Gwalia United return to FA Women’s National League Division One South West action this Sunday, when they welcome Keynsham Town to the USW Sport Park. Kick-off is at 2pm.
The home side will be hoping to carry their cup form into the league after a thumping 6-0 win over AFC Stoneham in the Women’s FA Cup last weekend.
Keynsham also progressed in the competition, beating fellow Division One South West side Torquay United thanks to a brace from Mia Mugford.
Mark Graham’s team are unbeaten in their last three games in all competitions, including a creditable 3-3 draw with Southern Premier Division side Exeter City in the FA Women’s National League Cup. They will now look to build on their only league victory so far, a 4-0 win over Ascot United in September, which came after four straight league defeats.
Gwalia have a reliable source of goals in Daisy Ackerman, who has scored hat-tricks in successive weeks. Cori Williams-Mills’ side are firmly focused on climbing the table, with the ultimate aim of winning promotion back to Tier 3.
The afternoon carries extra meaning for defender Megan Bible, who made 22 appearances for Keynsham last season, including the FA Women’s National League Cup group game against Gwalia.
There is also welcome news in goal. Wales international Laura O’Sullivan Jones returned to action last week after a long road to recovery. She was injured in the build-up to Euro 2025 and has worked hard to regain full fitness. Gwalia have a full-strength squad to choose from, with the exception of Emma Thomas, who is away on international duty with Wales Women Under 19s.
Head-to-head
The clubs are well known to each other and have met many times over the years.
The most recent meeting in south Wales came in November 2022, in the Women’s FA Cup. Gwalia, then known as Cardiff City Ladies, won 6-0 with a hat-trick from Chloe Lloyd, two goals from Cori Williams-Mills and one from Laura Williams.
The sides also met in the group stage of last season’s FA Women’s National League Cup, when a Katie Quick goal secured a 1-0 victory for Gwalia in Keynsham.
