Match Preview: Bristol Rovers v Gwalia United – FAWNL Plate First Round

Oaklands Park Stadium

Gwalia United return to cup action on Sunday with a trip to Bristol Rovers in the FA Women’s National League Plate, where a place in the second round is up for grabs.

The tie comes only a few days after the two teams played out an enthralling 2-2 draw in a league fixture under the lights at USW Sport Park, and another closely fought contest looks likely.

Gwalia reached the first round as one of the best third-placed runners-up from the group stage, sealing their spot with a nail-biting 4-3 win away at Worcester City at the end of September.

Rovers also advanced as one of the best third-placed runners-up. They booked their place with a 4-2 victory over Keynsham Town at Oaklands Park, with Isabella Tweddle scoring twice and Lashai Mcnama and Gipsy Viveash also on target.

With honours even after the league meeting, both sides will head into the game believing they can progress. Gwalia, meanwhile, will be looking to extend their unbeaten league and cup run to eight matches.

Head-to-head

Sunday’s match will be the first competitive meeting between the clubs in Bristol.
