Gwalia United claimed a dramatic 2–1 win over Billericay Town, giving new manager Cori Williams-Mills her first victory in charge after a thrilling late comeback.
The first half was slow and scrappy, with both teams clearly affected by the cold weather and the Christmas break. There was little flow to the game and few chances at either end, leaving the fans on the sidelines with not much to warm them up. Billericay looked well organised, while Gwalia found it difficult to build momentum going forward.

The match opened up in the second half, and with around half an hour to play Billericay took the lead. New signing Yaz Cowley finished well to put the visitors ahead, a reward for a strong and disciplined performance. At that point, Billericay looked comfortable and continued to defend well, limiting Gwalia’s opportunities.
Gwalia’s response grew stronger in the final stages, especially after changes from the bench. Georgia Walters made an immediate impact when she came on, adding pace and energy to the attack. Walters went close, as did Manon Pearce, while Keira O’Keefe saw a goal ruled out for offside as Gwalia began to apply sustained pressure.

The breakthrough finally came in the 89th minute. O’Keefe was fouled in the penalty area, and Beth McGowan kept her nerve to calmly fire home the equaliser. The goal lifted the crowd and gave Gwalia fresh belief going into stoppage time.

As the clock moved into the red, Gwalia continued to push forward. Walters, Tia Asker and O’Keefe combined well, increasing the pace and stretching Billericay’s defence. Deep into added time, the moment arrived. Walters, who had changed the game since coming on, found space and finished decisively to score the winner, sparking wild celebrations.
Billericay Town were competitive throughout and can feel unlucky to leave without a point. However, Gwalia’s intensity and attacking drive in the final 20 minutes proved decisive, sealing a memorable comeback and a first win for Cori Williams-Mills as Gwalia United manager.
