Gwalia United will host Yate Town in the First Round of the FA Women’s Cup after today’s draw.
The tie pits Gwalia against opposition from one tier below them in the English football pyramid. South Gloucestershire-based Yate Town, formerly known as Pucklechurch Sports Ladies, currently compete in the South West Regional Premier Division, a tier five competition. They reached the first round with a 2-0 home win over Bishop’s Cleeve.
Gwalia booked their place in the first round proper with a convincing 6-0 home victory over AFC Stoneham.
Speaking after the draw was made, Gwalia manager Cori Williams-Mills said, “We are really happy to get another home tie. It should be a great occasion against tough opposition, and we are all looking forward to it.”
A win over Yate would put Gwalia into the hat for the second round. That is the same stage of the competition reached last season, when their run was ended by a 2-0 defeat away to fellow Southern Premier League side Plymouth Argyle.
The fixture is scheduled for Sunday 25 October. Kick-off time and ticket prices will be announced in due course.
