Plymouth Argyle progressed in the Women’s FA Cup with a 2–0 win over Gwalia United at Home Park, courtesy of a first-half double from forward Phoebe Poole in a match that ended in heated late controversy.
Gwalia began with purpose and discipline, Amina Vine showing early composure under pressure, while Eliza Collie and Tia Asker linked well in the opening exchanges. But Argyle carried the greater early threat, and Poole twice went close — first missing the target when clean through on goal, then heading wide from an Ellie Noble free-kick.
The breakthrough for Plymouth arrived on 36 minutes when Poole met another accurate Noble delivery, this time directing her header past Benedicte Haaland. Three minutes later she doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after what was a highly confusing decision. This put the hosts firmly in control at the interval.
Gwalia introduced fresh legs early in the second half and looked for a route back into the contest. Casi Gregson tested the Plymouth goalkeeper shortly after the restart and Daisy Ackerman twice threatened from long-range free-kicks, though neither effort seriously troubled Hermione Cull in the Argyle goal.
Plymouth continued to create openings of their own, with chances for Charlotte Whitmore and Layla Proctor from set pieces. The match ended in heated scenes as both Bonnie Gready and Poole were shown red cards in stoppage time following a confrontation, bringing an abrupt close to a fiercely contested tie. Gwalia’s second half endeavours merited better than a 2-0 scoreline, and despite a resilient second-half display from Gwalia United, Plymouth’s first-half efficiency proved decisive as they advanced to the next round.
