Match Preview: Gwalia United v Billericay Town

In the first match of the calendar year, Gwalia United kick-off 2026, hosting Billericay Town at the USW Sport Park this Sunday at 2pm in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

In our last league game before Christmas, we hosted Exeter City in the league. Casi Gregson’s early headed goal put Gwalia ahead, less than 10 minutes into the match. However, Exeter found their rhythm, with Sophie Gillies and Ishbel Zuurmond’s brace sending the Grecians into a 3-1 lead at half-time. Leah Burridge and Georgia Vaccaro’s double rounded off a clinical performance from the away side.

Meanwhile, for Billericay, they faced a tall order as they hosted current leaders Bournemouth at New Lodge, losing 8-0. Sophie Quirk’s hat-trick, Molly Clark, Jessica Hennessy, Georgia Wilson, Kelci Bowers and Emilia Newton sealed victory for the Cherries.

Going into Sunday’s match, there is only one place that separates the two sides. Gwalia sit in 11th with 10 points, compared to Billericay in 12th with zero points, as both sides have endured tough spells of form so far this season.

In our previous meeting this campaign with Billericay back in August, we registered our first league victory, winning 8-1, thanks to four goals from Cori Williams-Mills, in addition to finishes from Tia Asker, Ellie-Mai Sanford, Casi Gregson, and a first goal in Gwalia colours for Eliza Collie. Erika Lempik with a consolation for the hosts.
