Cheltenham Town v Gwalia United – Match Preview

Gwalia United make the short trip to Gloucestershire to face Cheltenham Town at Kayte Lane on Thursday evening in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.

Last time out, Gwalia welcomed second-place Plymouth Argyle’s to the USW Sport Park on February 8th, resulting in a resilient team performance, as we picked up a point in a goalless draw.

Benedicte Haaland’s first-half penalty save denied Argyle’s Phoebe Poole from 12-yards, with the away side also hitting the woodwork in second-half stoppage time.

The final result saw Cori Williams-Mills’ side pick up another point in the league in 2026, in addition to the four points from the matches against Billericay Town and Hashtag United.

For Cheltenham, they have endured a tough start to the year, losing to Real Bedford (1-5), Oxford United (2-0) and Lewes (6-0). Prior to that, the Robinesses recorded comprehensive victories over Exeter City (0-4) and Billericay (3-0).

In this season’s reverse fixture back in October, Gwalia left it late to secure a point at Leckwith Stadium, thanks to Williams-Mills’ controlled finish from Daisy Ackerman’s cross. Emily Owen had given Cheltenham the lead with 20 minutes left to play from the penalty spot.

Going into Thursday’s match, just four points and two places separate both sides in the league table. With Cheltenham sitting in 8th with 19 points, compared to Gwalia in 10th, with 15 points.
