Gwalia United will head into the new campaign full of confidence after an encouraging pre-season programme that has seen the side record three victories from three matches, while producing a series of encouraging performances.
After a difficult 2025/26 campaign, which ultimately ended in relegation, there has been a clear focus throughout the summer on addressing the areas that proved costly. While any team’s league position ultimately confirmed on points, the manner of relegation (of not just point, or indeed goals difference, but number of goals scored) proving to be a decisive factor, early signs suggest the squad has embraced that challenge, finding the net regularly and showing greater creativity and confidence in attack.
Beyond the results, pre-season has provided an opportunity for the squad to continue developing the identity that began to emerge during the second half of last season. Performances have been characterised by high energy, attacking intent and an evident togetherness, providing supporters with plenty of optimism ahead of the league opener.
Manager Cori Williams-Mills believes the work completed over recent weeks has laid strong foundations for the season ahead.
“As we continue through pre-season, there have been so many positives to take from the work we’ve done so far. We’re building on the strong foundations we created over the final six months of last season, and there’s a real sense of belief growing around the club.
“It’s been fantastic to welcome some new faces. Elin, at just 16 years old, has an incredibly bright future ahead of her, while the return of Kylie (Nolan) and Issy (Newns) brings valuable experience, quality and understanding of what this club is about.
“More importantly, we’ve brought together a group of players and staff who genuinely want to be here. They believe in what we’re building and are committed to driving the club forward.
“I’m especially proud of the commitment shown by the players. After relegation, it would have been easy for people to walk away and look elsewhere. Instead, they’ve chosen to stay, stand by the club and fight for each other. That says everything about the character of this group.
“Together, we’re determined to earn our way back to where we believe Gwalia United belongs.”
With momentum building both on and off the pitch, Gwalia United can now turn their attention to the start of the new season. While pre-season results count for little once the competitive action begins, the performances, goals and unity shown over the past few weeks provide genuine encouragement that the club is moving firmly in the right direction.
