Gwalia United continue their FA Women’s National League Cup campaign this Sunday, when Kidderminster Harriers make the trip to the USW Sport Park, with kick-off at 2pm.
Having secured a creditable draw away at Southern Premier Division side Cheltenham Town in their opening Group C game, Cori Williams-Mills’ side will look to keep their unbeaten record intact against fellow Tier 4 opposition in Kidderminster, who play their league football in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.
The Harriers got their own Cup campaign off to a winning start when they beat fellow FAWNL Division One Midlands side Worcester City 1-0 at Sixways Stadium, courtesy of a second-half strike from Reia Henry.
It proved to be Brandon Bevins’ team’s first win of the season, having lost their opening league fixture away at Notts County before securing their first league win last Sunday, a 2-1 victory over Wythenshawe in which Amber Lawrence and Reia Henry were both on target for the home side.
Without a fixture last Sunday, Gwalia will be hoping for another resilient performance in the Cup, after Molly Kehoe’s stunning strike ensured a point in the Cotswolds last time out.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Gwalia manager Cori Williams-Mills said:
“That result maintained our unbeaten run, but it also reminded us of the standards we need to keep setting. We know that good starts count for very little unless we continue to build on them. Today provides another opportunity to do exactly that.”
“Kidderminster Harriers will be a tough opponent and, as always in cup football, we expect a competitive and demanding contest. We will approach the game with focus, energy and a determination to represent Gwalia United in the right way.”
Head-to-Head
This will be the first time that the two clubs have met in a competitive fixture.
Match Officials
Sunday’s game will be refereed by Anthony Blatchford of the Somerset Football Association, assisted by Benjamin Meakin, also of the Somerset Football Association, and Mark Pratten of the Gloucestershire Football Association. The last Gwalia fixture that Blatchford officiated was the 3-2 win over London Bees in last season’s FAWNL Plate competition.
