Pathway Spotlight: Gwalia United U16s make flying start with back-to-back wins.

Gwalia United U16s began their league campaign with victories over Penrhiwceiber before following it up with a win over Canton. The opening game tested Gwalia’s resilience. Short on numbers, and with several players feeling under the weather, they started slowly and struggled to find the right final pass. But Georgia’s delivery sent Freya J through to round the goalkeeper and put Gwalia ahead before the break.

The visitors raised their tempo after half-time. Freya H.J’s corner went straight in to double the lead, and Lexi’s pace down the right created the third, crossing for Freya J to finish and complete her brace.

Lexi was named player of the day for her energy and attacking runs, while the team secured three valuable points.

Gwalia were even more prolific in their next outing, racing into an early lead against Canton. Freya J scored a hat-trick inside the opening nine minutes as Gwalia’s quick, direct play repeatedly opened up the opposition. Freya H, Mali and Ellie were also on target in a dominant team performance. Gwalia pressed effectively without the ball and kept a clean sheet, while Chloe was composed in possession from the back. Jess provided three assists, and several teammates contributed with goals, assists and strong defensive work.

The coaches praised the whole squad’s effort, particularly given the team’s small numbers, while noting that tougher tests lie ahead.
