Bournemouth v Gwalia United – Match Preview

A second away trip in as many days as Gwalia United travel to the south coast to face Bournemouth at the Ringwood Community Hub in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division. Kick-off is at 3pm.

On Thursday, we travelled the short distance to face Cheltenham Town, as Gwalia fought from two goals down to draw 2-2. Georgia Galley in the 15th minute and Indie Power in the 29th, had given the Robinesses daylight in terms of the score.

It is always said that a two-goal advantage is a dangerous scoreline, and that was proven in the second 45. Georgia Walters, with around 25 minutes left to play, managed to get Gwalia a foothold in the game, courtesy of a calm finish in the area. Substitute Keira O’Keefe’s goal at the back-post securing a well-deserved point away from home.

Meanwhile for Bournemouth, they tasted their first league defeat, inflicted by Oxford United’s Holly Manders. This result culminated in the end of the Cherries’ 1081 day unbeaten streak in the league.

After the midweek results, Bournemouth sit in 3rd with 30 points, five points off top, with three games in hand over Plymouth in 2nd. For Gwalia, we sit in 10th with 16 points, two clear of AFC Wimbledon.

In this season’s previous meeting, Bournemouth emerged victorious in September at a wet USW Sport Park. Goals from Jenna Markham and a Sophie Quirk brace ensured three points were going back to south coast.
