Charlie Mitchell Confirmed as Assistant Head Coach at Gwalia United

Gwalia United are pleased to confirm that Charlie Mitchell will continue with the club as Assistant Head Coach for the upcoming season — a key appointment as the club looks to build on a strong finish last year and push towards its long-term goals.

Mitchell, who holds both the UEFA A Licence and UEFA Elite Youth A Licence, brings significant coaching and analysis experience across multiple levels of the game. His track record includes roles in the WSLinternational football, and the men’s professional game, making him a valuable figure in Gwalia’s continued growth.

His previous roles include Head of Analysis at Doncaster during their time in the WSL and WSL2, Head of Analysis for Wales Women’s National Teams, and Assistant Head Coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women’s National Team. He has also led the Bristol City Women U21s as Head Coach and worked in Cyprus with Pafos FC, where he was both Head of Analysis and Interim Head Coach in the men’s top division.

Speaking about the appointment, Gwalia United’s Head Coach James Thomas said:

“Securing Charlie for this upcoming season is hugely important for us as a club.

We’ve worked together for a long time in both club and national team environments, and that level of trust and understanding is really valuable when building a coaching team. Being able to retain Charlie is a big step forward for us on the field.

I genuinely believe this staff team is one any club in the women’s game would be pleased to have, and I’m confident it will help Gwalia push on in the right direction.”

Mitchell is excited about what lies ahead:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be continuing with Gwalia United as Assistant Head Coach for the upcoming season. It’s been a privilege to be part of the journey so far, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff, players, and everyone behind the scenes at the club. It’s about building on that foundation and pushing this club in the direction we all believe it can go — towards WSL 2 football.”

He added:

“This summer has been crucial in terms of recruitment and preparation, and the additions we’ve made — and continue to make — reflect the ambition we all share. We’re not here to stand still. We want to develop a clear identity, play progressive football, and keep raising standards in every area.”

Mitchell’s experience and detailed approach to coaching will be central to Gwalia’s aims this season. With his continued leadership on the training pitch, and the support of an expanded backroom staff, the club is well placed to take another big step forward.

More updates will follow as pre-season continues and preparations ramp up for what promises to be an exciting campaign.
