Georgia Walters Signs For Gwalia United

Gwalia United have continued their ambitious summer recruitment drive with the signing of experienced Wales international Georgia Walters, marking their fifth addition ahead of the 2025–26 campaign. Walters’s arrival marks yet a significant milestone for Gwalia United with the former Liverpool player adding further quality to their ranks.

Walters arrives from Blackburn Rovers, who competed in the FA Women’s Championship (now known as WSL 2) last season, bringing with her a wealth of experience from both club and international football. Since making her senior debut against the Faroe Islands in 2020, Georgia has earned five caps for the Welsh national team and has previously represented top-level clubs including Liverpool and Sheffield United.

For Walters, the move marks a significant homecoming. Having begun her footballing journey at Swindon Town, this is her first time playing for a senior club in her native Wales.

“I’m really excited with the project, and I really like the ambition of the club,” Walters said. “Each year, the league gets harder and harder, and having experience in higher divisions can become invaluable. I know a couple of teammates from previous camps. I’m happy to get going now, with the season just around the corner.”

Her arrival signals another statement of intent from Gwalia United, who continue to build a squad that blends international pedigree with domestic potential. Walters now joins Bethan McGowan, Daisy Ackerman, Amina Vine and Eliza Collie as new additions for the summer, forming part of a reshaped and highly competitive squad.

Manager James Thomas, who previously worked with Walters in the Wales senior national setup, was full of praise for his latest recruit.

“I’m delighted we have been able to bring Georgia to Gwalia United,” said Thomas. “I know Georgia from working with her within the Wales Senior National Team environment and she has been a player on my wish list since I’ve taken the role here at Gwalia.

“From our first conversation about what we are trying to achieve at Gwalia United and how I see her role within that, it was clear that our ideas on how the game should be played and the journey we are embarking on as a club were very closely aligned.

“Georgia is such an exciting player to watch and brings so much quality and experience having played in higher divisions and at Senior National Team level. I feel she will be knocking on the door of international football again, because she certainly has the attributes to do that.”

Thomas also highlighted the broader impact Walters is expected to have on the group.

“She brings leadership, high standards and expectations—not just of herself, but of the players around her too. That fits with what we’re building here. The playing group we have assembled at Gwalia United is an exciting one and I can’t wait for the season to get started.”
