Gwalia United Add Wales Youth International Emma Thomas to Squad

Gwalia United have strengthened their ranks for the new season with the addition of Wales Under-17 midfielder Emma Thomas.

Thomas arrives with an impressive footballing CV despite still being in her teens. Comfortable on either foot and able to slot into both midfield and defensive roles, she blends sharp passing with the grit to break up opposition attacks. That versatility has made her a standout at every level she’s played.

Her football journey began aged seven, turning out for both boys’ and girls’ sides before earning a place in the FAW Girls Academy. On the international stage, Thomas has worn the red shirt of Wales at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 level, collecting multiple caps and captaining her country on several occasions. Over the past three seasons she has been a consistent presence in national age-grade squads, leading by example with her work rate and discipline.

At club level, her path has taken her from grassroots football with Pontardawe Town Boys and Swansea City Girls Development, through competitive seasons with Ystradgynlais, to several years in the FAW Girls Academy. Each step has built her reputation as a player with both technical ability and character.

Manager James Thomas said:

“Really pleased to welcome Emma to Gwalia United. She came in to work with the group and has proved herself to be a very talented young player and an excellent character. I look forward to working with her and continuing to support her development within our environment.”

Thomas will now link up with the squad as preparations step up for the 2025/26 campaign. Welcome Emma.
