Gwalia United v AFC Wimbledon – Match Preview

Gwalia United return to league action after two weeks away, as we face AFC Wimbledon at the USW Sport Park on Sunday in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division. Kick-off is at 2pm. After a week off last weekend, in the league a fortnight ago away against Bournemouth, we were defeated 2-0, with goals from Abby Jones and Zoe Barrett late on in either half, enough to give the Cherries the three points. This result ended our four-game unbeaten run in the league.

For the Dons, they moved above Gwalia in the league table, dispatching Billericay Town 4-0. A double from Ashlee Hincks, plus goals from Alisha Buckingham and Rosie Russell seeing off the league’s bottom side. Gwalia go into this game in 11th on 16 points, a point less than Wimbledon, who sit in 10th, setting up an intriguing clash between the sides on Sunday afternoon. In a league where this season there is only a meagre 5 points between the safety of 7th and the relegation zone, each game now brings on extra significance.

In this season’s previous meeting in September, despite a tight contest between both sides, Beth McGowan’s early goal secured the three points for Gwalia at Imperial Fields, as we won 1-0.

You can buy your tickets, via the ‘Ticket’ tab on the website, where you can find more information regarding this match. The game is sponsored by Safety Horizons South West and is a special charity game where we are joined by one of our nominated charities Guide Dogs For the Blind.
