Gwalia United entertain Bridgwater United in the second round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday. The hosts are looking to return to winning form whilst visiting Bridgwater have won their last three games across all competitions.
Gwalia reached this stage of the Fa Cup after beating Swindon Town 4 – 1 at the start of November whilst it was a 4 – 2 win at Forest Green and a 1 – 0 win down in Torbay that led Bridgwater to the second round.
Last weekend marked the first time Gwalia United failed to score at home this season. But despite that their attack is in fine form with the likes of Ellie Sargent, Cori Williams-Mills and Casi Gregson all finding the net recently.
Connie Pengelly has scored 3 goals in her last 3 games for the club from Somerset, including the winner against Torquay in round one.
Elsewhere there has been fantastic news in the Gwalia camp as four of their players were called up to the Wales under 19s squad earlier this week. Shurima Vine, Casi Gregson, Kiera O’Keefe and Elena Cole have all featured heavily for the Welsh side this season and have been rewarded with the chance to put on the national jersey.
Lest it be forgotten that Gwalia United’s goalkeeper Laura O’Sullivan has been called up to the senior squad as Wales look to qualify for their first major tournament.
Manager Fern Burrage-Male was elated for the girls ahead of the game this Sunday.
“It’s fantastic.
“Our club has long produced a number of internationals for Wales and it’s something that we’ve wanted to continue to do.
“To see those girls go off and represent our country.
“It’s something we’re all proud of.” She said, adding that the club wishes all the best for the under 19s and the senior squad who it hopes can qualify for the Euros.
Fern also reinforced the value of the club’s fans as Gwalia look to get themselves into the third round of the Fa Cup.
“Our fans make a massive difference for us.
“We feel it, we feel it on the pitch, we value every one of them.
“We’ll feel every single one of them.” Said Fern.
