FA Women’s National League Plate Semi-Final

Moneyfields 2–0 Gwalia United

Gwalia United’s run in the FA Women’s National League Plate came to an end at the semi-final stage as Moneyfields secured a 2–0 victory, capitalising on a fast start from the hosts and a first-half spell that ultimately decided the contest. The visitors began the tie with some early promise. Inside the opening minutes, Gwalia moved the ball well through midfield, with Katie Quick and Manon Pearce involved in a neat passage of play that led to Tia Asker delivering into the box, only for Georgia Walters to be caught just offside. It was an encouraging moment, but one that would prove fleeting.

Moneyfields quickly established control, pressing aggressively and forcing Gwalia into defensive work deeper than they would have liked. On seven minutes, Dream Surin tested Benedicte Haaland from distance, the Gwalia goalkeeper responding well to push the effort away. It was a warning sign. That pressure told in the 11th minute. A sustained spell of possession ended with Shannon Albuery finding space and finishing clinically to give the hosts the lead. The goal reflected Moneyfields’ early dominance and left Gwalia chasing the game far earlier than planned.

The hosts continued to ask questions, with Tierney Scott delivering a dangerous cross moments later, before Moneyfields doubled their advantage on 19 minutes. Brooke Garcia was given room inside the area and made no mistake, firing her effort into the roof of the net to put the home side 2–0 up. Gwalia attempted to respond. Pearce and Ackerman both saw efforts from range, with Ackerman shooting over after Walters’ quick distribution down the right, while Ali Hall later dragged a chance over the bar from inside the box. However, despite flashes of intent, clear chances were limited as Moneyfields remained organised and difficult to break down.

The half closed with further frustration for the visitors, as Gwalia were unable to turn promising positions into meaningful pressure, and the sides went into the interval with Moneyfields holding a deserved two-goal lead.

The second half saw Gwalia show greater urgency, but it was the hosts who came closest to extending their advantage. Early after the restart, Albuery was denied twice in quick succession by Haaland, while Garcia headed narrowly wide from an excellent delivery. Gwalia did push forward in spells. Walters teed up Keira O’Keefe from distance, only for her effort to be blocked, while Pearce’s deflected strike forced a corner that ultimately came to nothing. Despite changes from the bench and a willingness to commit bodies forward, Moneyfields’ defensive shape remained solid.

As the clock ticked down, the task became increasingly difficult. Long balls towards Walters failed to find their target, and opportunities to build sustained pressure were quickly shut down by the hosts, who managed the closing stages with composure and physicality. In the final moments, Moneyfields defended their box resolutely to preserve both their lead and their clean sheet, seeing out the game to book their place in the final.
