Gwalia United partners with Rachel’s Day to raise awareness of life-saving sepsis efforts

The partnership aims to educate and provide vital information about the life-threatening condition

Gwalia United women’s football team has announced a new fundraising partnership with Rachel’s Day Sepsis Awareness, aligned with Sepsis UK. The 2025 partnership aims to spotlight sepsis awareness by educating the community and support ongoing efforts to save lives by spreading vital information about early detection and prevention.

The charity, inspired by the tragic loss of Rachel Day to sepsis, has since become a beacon for awareness across Wales, using events like family fun days, pet owner first-aid workshops, and charity dog walks to reach a diverse audience and educate the public.

The collaboration will see Gwalia United use its platform to promote Rachel’s Day Sepsis Awareness at matches, events and digital platforms. It’s association with the charity will help amplify these initiatives and enhance community understanding of sepsis risks and symptoms.

Bernie Day, founder of Rachel’s Day Sepsis Awareness, spoke of the partnership:

“We’re absolutely delighted to partner with Gwalia United. Sepsis is a devastating condition that claims lives every day, often because people don’t recognise the symptoms in time. By joining forces with Gwalia United, we have an incredible opportunity to reach a wider audience and deepen awareness. This association reflects the community spirit at the heart of Gwalia United, and we are grateful for their support in honouring Rachel’s memory and mission.”

Gwalia United’s next home national league game on 27th April will be Rachel’s Day Sepsis Awareness match, where members of the community will be at the game raising funds and awareness when they take on Plymouth Argyle at University of Wales Sports Park.

Michele Adams MBE, Chair of Gwalia United, said: “Partnering with Rachel’s Day Sepsis Awareness allows our players and fans to be passionate about supporting causes that resonate deeply, and Rachel’s story is a powerful reminder of how awareness can truly save lives.”
