Gwalia United Set for FAWNL Plate Semi-Final

Gwalia United travel to the John Jenkins Stadium this weekend to face Moneyfields in the FA National Women’s League Plate semi-final, with a place in the final on the line. The fixture marks another milestone for Gwalia’s , following an impressive cup run that has already seen the club eliminate Professional Game Academy sides Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion on the road to the last four.

Those victories highlighted both the depth and resilience within the Gwalia squad, as they went toe-to-toe with — and ultimately overcame — full-time professional academy opposition to secure a place in the semi-final. That achievement is all the more striking given Gwalia’s own squad averages just 22 years and 5 months of age, with more than ten players still under 21.

Manager Cori Williams-Mills says the occasion reflects the progress being made on and off the pitch.

“To reach a semi-final in the FA system is something everyone connected to Gwalia United should be proud of,” she said.

“We’ve earned this the hard way, against very strong opposition, and it speaks volumes about the players’ attitude, work ethic and belief. But we’re not going there just to enjoy the moment — we’re going there to compete and to give the best possible account of ourselves.”

The semi-final also carries broader significance for the club’s long-term ambitions, with co-owner Julian Jenkins highlighting what the run represents for Gwalia’s identity and trajectory.

“This is a wonderful moment for Gwalia United,” Jenkins said.

“Beating Tottenham and Brighton academies to reach a national semi-final shows that what we’re building here is real and is sustainable. It’s a point of pride not just for the players and staff, but for everyone who has invested time, belief and energy into this club. The club is in its fiftieth year, and the people involved with the club from day one deserve something to shout about this season. These are also the moments that tell you you’re moving in the right direction.”

Tier 4 leaders Moneyfields will provide a stern test on home turf, with an impressive scoring record this season and leading a league that includes teams such as Bristol Rovers and Swindon Town, but Gwalia arrive with momentum and confidence, buoyed by recent performances and an unbeaten three-game run stretching across league and cup competitions.

Kick-off at the John Jenkins Stadium takes place this weekend, with Gwalia United aiming to take one more step toward silverware — and further underline their growing stature within the FA National League.
