Home Park is the venue for Sunday’s FAWNL Southern Premier Division clash between Plymouth Argyle and Gwalia United. Kick-off is at 2PM. After FA Cup victory on Sunday, we returned to league action with a home league game at Leckwith International Sports Stadium against Cheltenham Town on Thursday evening, drawing 1-1.
Battling in the swirling autumnal rain, the Robins took the lead, courtesy of Emily Owen’s penalty kick, 20 minutes from time. After two lengthy injury stoppages in the second half, a late surge of Gwalia pressure on the visitors’ goal secured a point, thanks to captain Cori Williams-Mills, with a flat corner delivery from Daisy Ackerman evading a crowd of players in the box. Williams-Mills showed great composure to place the ball past Charlotte Haynes to net her sixth goal of the campaign, securing a point. This result moved Gwalia up to sixth in the table, and a third game unbeaten in all competitions. A trip to Home Park to face the side sitting fourth in the division is a big test, losing just once so far in the 2025/26 season against Watford, while winning four and drawing three of the rest of their league games. Also for the Pilgrims, alongside leaders Bournemouth, they boast the joint-best defence in the league.
On Wednesday, Plymouth travelled to play Exeter at St James Park in a Devon Derby, drawing 1-1. Sophie Gillies had given the Grecians the lead before former Gwalia loanee and recently capped Wales international Tianna Teisar secured a point for Marie Hourihan’s side late on. November sees Gwalia travel to Plymouth twice, as on Sunday, November 23rd, we play at Home Park again in the Second Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
In last season’s meetings, Plymouth won both. In November 2024, the Pilgrims came from behind twice to win 4-3.
Williams-Mills gave Gwalia the lead. Ellie Sara equalised to level the score. Ellie Sargent and Williams-Mills made it 3-1 to Gwalia, registering a brace. Sara scored again to make it 3-2. Charlotte Whitmore made it 3-3 before Sara completed her hat-trick to snatch victory for Plymouth. In the reverse fixture in south Wales, Plymouth completed the double over Gwalia, winning 2-0 in April. Lulu Jarvis’ header gave the visitors the advantage in the second half, later followed by Georgia Wilson late on to seal victory, and league survival on the final day of the season.
